The
Performers |
Michael has been spinning fire since 2001. He first trained on staff and quickly developed his charismatic high-energy fire-dancing style. Never one to be shy, he is happiest spinning staff in front of large crowds at parties and festivals. Some of his favourite performances have been at the Burning Man Festival (Black Rock City, Nevada) 2001 - 2007 at the Shambhala Festival (Nelson, B.C.) 2002 and at the North Country Fair (Joussard, Alta.) 2003. Skills: staff, double staff, poi, fire sword, and stilts
Sarah first learned to spin poi while traveling in Australia in 2002. She was first intrigued by fire spinning when she saw fire dancers practicing on the beaches of Byron Bay, NSW. It didn't take her long to find a pair of poi herself and to begin the fun practice of the art of fire spinning. When she returned to her home town of Victoria, B.C. in early 2003, she and Mike found that their spinning styles blended together beautifully. Some of her most memorable burns include: the Woodford Festival (Woodford, Queensland, Australia) 2002, Luminara Lantern Festival (2004 - 2007), the Pender Island Lantern Festival 2005 and Burning Man (BRC, Nevada) 2003, 2005 - 2007. Skills: poi, staff, double staff, fire fingers, fire ropes, fans and stilts
David was first introduced to the art of spinning fire poi while on holiday in Thailand two years ago. He returned to Victoria and improved his poi skills through a four-month series of lessons. David first picked up the fire staff in the summer of 2003 and is equally passionate in the study of both poi and staff. He is also an accomplished professional airbrush artist and can be seen on the streets of downtown Victoria honing his spinning and dance abilities while plying his trade. He returned to Thailand in early 2004, but this time as a teacher of both styles and is credited with introducing spinning skils to over sixty people David's love of fire and performing combine to produce a spectacle guranteed to enthrall audience members everywhere. Skills: poi and staff
Paul was introduced to fire spinning in Vancouver 2002 at the Trout Lake Fire Jams. He moved to Victoria in early 2005 and was lucky enough to meet up with Primal Fire. Since then, he has been involved in performing various sized shows with the troupe; the largest so far being Luminara Lantern Festival in 2006 and 2007. He hopes to do even biger and brighter shows in the future. Skills: staff, double staff, sword, double sword and the meteor.
Eve fell in love with both fire spinning and her husband in the Spring of 2007. She enjoys playing with new ideas and loves to entertain. She was excited to join Primal Fire this October and looks forward to doing bigger and brighter shows.
Daniel became determined to learn poi after seeing a fire spinning
performance in 2007. He was soon practicing on his own and taking
classes, as well as playing with poi constantly (often inside the
house --
despite complaints from family members and the occasional broken lamp
or
house plant). He was spinning fire for the first time 3 months later,
at
age 14. As well as being really fun, poi and fire spinning was
something
that he could focus on, which helped him through some rough times in
his
teenage years. He later started going to fire jams and indoor
practices,
where he met members of Primal Fire. Daniel started to perform with the
troupe in the fall of 2008.
